On behalf of the whole team here at Promac, we’d like to congratulate our sponsored driver Tristan Ovenden for his sterling performance in the second round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship on 17th April.
Fastest Qualifying Time
In his V6 powered Renault Clio, Canterbury-based Tristan Ovenden put in a blistering performance at his home circuit of Lydden Hill. Despite wet conditions and a frustrating finish to the day, Tristan consistently led the field in qualifying, setting the fastest time in all the sessions with a margin of two seconds over his nearest rival. His speed and control got Tristan a well-earned pole position for the semi-final round, which he won with ease, finishing over half a lap ahead of the other cars.
A Double Victory Denied
We were all extremely excited when it came to the finals, with Tristan starting at pole and with a good chance of a double victory. By the time the drag race was finished and the loose sections were reached, Tristan was already building up a comfortable lead over the rest of the field. Unfortunately, minutes away from victory, the rear suspension on Tristan’s Clio gave way on the penultimate lap, sending the car careering into the gravel trap on the Devil’s Elbow Corner.
Driver Of The Day
A second podium place thus slipped through Tristan’s fingers, going instead to Ollie O’Donovan, who won his second victory of the season. However, Tristan’s speed and overall performance won him the Driver of the Day award, and should give him confidence for the next round at Pembury, Carmarthenshire, on 25th June. The team all pulled together superbly and came tantalisingly close to a clean sweep of victories!
Proud To Sponsor Ovenden Motorsport
We are delighted to be sponsors of Ovenden Motorsport in the 2017 MSA British Rallycross Championship, along with our supply partner Doosan. Despite the mechanical problems that beset both the first round at Croft, Yorkshire in March and Lydden Hill in April, many of these issues have now been addressed. In testing, the car has become faster and more consistently reliable, with new checks in place to identify and address weaknesses before they develop into faults. The team is already performing very well in both the Suzuki Swift and Super National Championship categories, which puts Tristan in a strong position for next month’s race in Wales. Well done guys. We can’t wait!
